Coral Gables, FL (SportsNetwork. Tony Canadeo Jersey .com) - The Miami-Florida Hurricanes will attempt to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host the Savannah State Tigers in a non-conference clash at BankUnited Center on Monday evening. Savannah State is in the midst of five-game road trip, which began with an ugly 95-49 loss at Indiana on Saturday. The Tigers have lost four of their last five games overall, and all six of their road contests. They will visit Kansas State next. After producing wins in each of their first eight games, the Hurricanes finally stumbled on Saturday, dropping a 68-55 decision to Green Bay in the third leg of a five-game homestand. They will finish up the stretch of home games on Friday against Eastern Kentucky before tangling with Providence as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational. Miami has won each of the four previous meetings with Savannah State, including a 68-51 victory last season. Obviously, nothing went right at either end of the court for the Tigers against Indiana. They made just 32.1 percent of their field goal attempts, while converting only 8-of-15 free throws. When they had their backs to the basket, the Tigers allowed the Hoosier to drain 57.4 percent of their total shots, which included a 10-of-21 showing from beyond the arc. They also suffered a 42-24 deficit on the glass. Demarcus Bryant scored 14 points on 5- of-15 shooting off the bench as the top scorer in the loss. Savannah State has been inconsistent on offense this season, the team making good on only 38.1 percent of its field goal tries, while netting a meager 57.1 points per game. They are only assisting on 8.9 field goals per game as well, while letting up 74.3 points per game on 45.6 percent accuracy. Not a single player on the roster is averaging in double figures, with Javaris Jenkins (9.1 ppg) acting as the leading scorer. Miami had offensive problems of its own against Green Bay, connecting on a mere 32.8 percent of its shots, on its home floor no less. In addition, the Hurricanes were outrebounded, 46-37, while letting the Phoenix cash in on 43.9 percent of their field goal attempts. Deandre Burnett netted a game-high 21 points, but it still came in a loss. The good news for Miami is it wasnt overwhelmed by Green Bay when it was on defense. The Hurricanes have been stronger at that end this season, allowing a mere 61 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting. The Hurricanes certainly need to get back to the consistent shooting (.469 FG percentage) that they have demonstrated for much of this season. Sheldon McClellan (16.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg) has been a major part of the offense and he did have 16 points against Green Bay. Angel Rodriguez (13.9 ppg, 4.3 apg, 2.7 spg), Manu Lecomte (12 ppg) and Burnett (12.2 ppg) have produced for the most part as well. Kadar Hollman Jersey . "I had a pretty good year," the soft-spoken Granberg told TSN.ca with a grin from the teams annual rookie tournament in London. A fourth-round selection in 2010, Granberg is worth keeping an eye on with NHL training camps rolling around in less than a week. The six-foot-two, 200-pound defender may not possess the wow-inspiring theatrics of fellow prospect Morgan Rielly, but nonetheless has a chance to contribute with the Leafs when all is said and done this season. Tim Harris Jersey . -- The Washington Redskins coaching staff distanced itself from other coaches Thursday by siding with ownership -- and not the players -- in the NFLs labour dispute. http://www.custompackersjersey.com/custom-jimmy-graham-jersey-large-2-1532r.html . For Sweed, a second round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008, this will be his second go around in the CFL after previously having spent time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. INDIANAPOLIS -- Andrew Luck spent most of Sundays game watching Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch run around. So when the Colts quarterback finally got a chance to make some plays, he rallied Indianapolis in the fourth quarter for yet another victory. He threw two touchdown passes and led the Colts on two time-consuming scoring drives in the fourth quarter, taking the lead on Donald Browns 3-yard TD run with 8:55 to play, to hand Seattle its first loss of the season, 34-28. "This is the most resilient team that Ive ever been around," coach Chuck Pagano said. "Theyve got more grit than anybody, any team Ive been around." This season has certainly tested the Colts (4-1). Since a closer-than-expected Week 1 win over Oakland, the Colts have lost three offensive starters with season-ending injuries and a Week 2 game for their first home loss in nearly a year. Somehow though, Indy rebounded with three straight wins, including victories over NFC powers San Francisco and Seattle. Now they have sole possession of the AFC South lead for the first time in the post-Peyton Manning era, too. And all this came on a wacky day. Both teams scored off a blocked kick. The Seahawks (4-1) ran for 218 yards, averaged 6.4 yards per carry, had better field position and ran more than three dozen plays in Colts territory as they played keep away through the first three quarters. None of it mattered to Luck. He still found a way to win. On the decisive drive, he took advantage of a pass interference call against Richard Sherman, got another break when Pagano won a challenge on a third-down spot that turned fourth down into a first down. After consuming nearly seven minutes, he gave the ball to Brown, who squirted through the middle for the go-ahead score. Luck then hooked up with his favourite receiver Reggie Wayne on a 2-point conversion pass and took nearly five more minutes off the clock to set up Adam Vinatieri for a game-sealing 49-yard field goal. Luck finished 16 of 29 for 229 yards with two touchdowns and picked up his ninth fourth-quarter comeback win in 21 career games. "A win is a win, if it was ugly, if it was great," Luck said. "To come back, you hold on for dear life, but a chance to beat a good team in front of our home fans, to get back on track at home, we take a lot of pride in that." It came at Seattles expense, snnapping a nine-game regular season winning streak that dated to Nov. Kyler Fackrell Jersey. 25. But Sundays loss seemed almost inexplicable as last weeks win at Houston. Seattle dominated the first half, seemed to be in control most of the game, and Wilson went 15 of 31 for 210 yards with two TDs before throwing an interception on the Seahawks final play. He also ran 13 times for 102 yards. Lynch ran 17 times for 102 yards, and the defence limited Indy to just 317 yards of offence, 120 of that coming in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks also blocked a punt that bounced into the end zone and was recovered out of bounds for a safety, one of many missed opportunities for the NFC West leader. "We knew we were off to a good start," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. "We could feel that we were ready to go and playing well and all that. But settling for a field goal and not getting any points on the blocked kick -- that would have been a much different margin." "We really struggled on third down," Carroll added. "That was the difference. Those turned into field goals." Seattle started with a field goal and a 10-yard TD pass from Wilson to Golden Tate. McAfees blocked punt made it 12-0 barely 10 minutes into the game. Luck got Indy back into the game with a 73-yard TD pass to T.Y. Hilton, and the Colts took the lead when Delano Howell returned a blocked field goal 61 yards for a score. The Seahawks regained the lead 19-17 at halftime and appeared to be in good shape after two quick field goals in the third quarter. But after taking a 25-17 lead, Luck rallied the Colts again -- and this time, he made sure Wilson & Co. got to watch it all from the sideline. "I dont think, anybodys built better to win these close games, especially down the stretch, especially in the fourth quarter than this team," Pagano said. Notes: Hilton caught five passes for a career-high 140 yards and two scores. ... Colts defensive end Robert Mathis was credited with his 100th career sack when he forced a fumble at the end of the first half. He added another in the second half. .... Reggie Wayne caught six passes, leaving him four short of the 1,000-yard mark. ... Seattle was missing three of its starting offensive linemen for the second straight game. ... The two TD passes by Luck matched the total Seattle had allowed in its first four games. ' ' '

(SportsNetwork. Pavel Bure Jersey .com) - Having lost consecutive starts for the first time this season, Toronto hurler Mark Buehrle watched on Tuesday as New York rookie sensation Masahiro Tanaka passed him for the major league lead in victories. Buehrle will now try to join Tanaka in the 11-win club on Wednesday and even the Blue Jays three-game series with the AL East-rival Yankees. The resurgent Buehrle picked up his 10th win of the season on June 1, but followed up with a tough-luck 5-0 setback to St. Louis six days later as he was charged with just one run over seven innings. The lefty then struggled a bit in a 4-2 setback to Baltimore on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk in 6 1/3 frames. The loss dropped Buehrle to 10-3 on the year with a 2.28 earned run average. "There were times I made a lot of mistakes, and they made me pay for them," Buehrle told Torontos official website, "and then I made a few good pitches, and they put the ball in play and got some base hits." Buehrle will need to avoid the mistakes tonight given his history with the Yankees. The 35-year-old has made 16 prior starts against them, going a mere 1-10 with a 6.02 ERA. Tanaka secured his major league-leading 11th victory with last nights 3-1 victory, settling down from allowing a solo homer to Jose Reyes on the games first pitch to shut down the Blue Jays for the rest of his six-inning performance. Tanaka struck out 10 batters and moved in line for the victory following Brett Gardners two-run homer off Toronto hurler Marcus Stroman in the third inning. Tanaka lowered his ERA to an AL-best 1.99 and he is second in the league with 113 strikeouts. "What hes done is remarkable," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi of Tanaka. "He has been a big part of our success this year and continues to grind out starts, make adjustments and give us distance. He wins." Derek Jeter and Kelly Johnson each had two hits and a run scored to help New York halt a two-game skid with its fifth victory in seven games. The Yankees also moved to within 3 1/2 games of the Blue Jays for first place in the AL East. With Tanaka leading the charge, Toronto hitters fanned a total of 15 times on the evening en route to their 14th consecutive defeat at Yankee Stadium, the longest active streak by one team at a particular venue. Stroman allowed just two runs, but lasted only 3 2/3 innings while throwing 98 pitches in Torontos seventh loss in 10 games. "We had some good at-bats, we hit some balls hard early on, and then it just disappeared," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons remarked. "(Tanaka) pretty much shut us down. But hes good. Theres a reason hes doing what hes doing." New Yorks 14-game home winning streak over the Jays is the longest by one team over another since Toronto topped Baltimore 16 straight times at Rogers Centre from 2009-11. The Yankees hope to extend that run tonight behind Chase Whitley, who takes the mound four days after his 25th birthday. Whitley opened his major league career with four straight no-decisions, failing to pitch longer than five innings in any of those outings. However, the righty has improved on that in back-to-back wins, logging seven frames to beat Kansas City on June 6 before pitching 7 2/3 innings in a 6-3 win over Seattle on Thursday. Whitley held the Mariners to a pair of runs on five hits while striking out six to zero walks, giving him a 2.41 ERA heading into his first ever meeting with the Blue Jays. Toronto is expected to have center fielder Colby Rasmus back in the lineup tonight for the first time since May 12 as he returns from a strained right hamstring. Rasmus, hitting .222 with nine homers and 19 RBI in 37 games, made his sixth and final rehab appearance on Tuesday with Triple-A Buffalo. Nick Bjugstad Jersey . Ian Poulter was alone in second after a 68 while Woods and Henrik Stensson (69) were among four players sitting another shot back. The Vancouver Canucks were hoping for an improved showing when they signed former Vezina Trophy winner Ryan Miller to a three-year deal this summer. Pat ODonnell Jersey . The Canucks have experienced that so far with a promising start and Miller might have a chance to make another contribution Friday night if he gets to face a team thats never beaten him in seven starts, the scuffling Arizona Coyotes. Catch all the action on TSN 1040 starting at 5pm PT. After ending a streak of five consecutive playoff appearances in 2013-14, Vancouver appears very capable of making it back to the postseason with a 12-5-0 start. After an uneven beginning, Miller did his part with a 1.70 goals-against average during a recent seven-game win streak, but he needed a boost from his teammates for a league-best 11th win, a 4-3 overtime victory against Ottawa on Tuesday. After allowing the tying goal with 11:18 left in regulation, the Canucks finished it off when Daniel Sedin scored with 55 seconds remaining in the extra period. We are happy, obviously, defenseman Kevin Bieksa said. Its a good start for us. We wanted to get out of the gate early with the way the summer went and all the new changes. A lot of guys coming in wanted to prove themselves and reprove themselves. Weve got that accomplished so far. The Canucks have won back-to-back games since a 5-1 defeat to Los Angeles on Saturday and took a 2-1 shootout win over Anaheim the next day with Eddie Lack in net for the finale of a four-game trip. We find ways to win. Its fun, forward Henrik Sedin said. Having been off for two days and with a four-day break coming up, Vancouver will likely turn to Miller again as hes 7-0-0 with a 1.27 GAA all-time against the Coyotes. Thats easily his lowest GAA versus any opponent and his second-best record versus any team behind a 10-0-0 mark against Edmonton. Western Conference-worst Arizona (6-9-1) heads into Vancouver seeking to avoid a season-high fourth consecutive loss. Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith has been charged with a combined nine goals in the past two defeats, the latest a 5-3 loss in Calgary in Thursdays opener to a three-game trip. There are plays that have to get made, saves that have to get done. We just have to play better as a group, coach Dave Tippett said. Its unknown if Smith, 4-9-0 with a 3.43 GAA this season, will start on back-to-back nights. He started all five games against Vancouver last season and led the Coyotes to a 3-0-2 series victory while posting a 1.93 GAA. Smith, though, also gave up a combined eight goals in two overtime losses in Vancouver. Backup Devan Dubnyk allowed a total of nine goals in a pair of defeats in Vancouver last season while with Edmonton. Its also unclear if Vancouvers Radim Vrbata will get to face his former club, but he did practice Thursday. Vrbata has missed the past two games with a leg injury after producing six goals and seven assists in his first 15 with the Canucks. He had 20 goals and a career-best 31 assists last season with the Coyotes and scored a career-high 35 goals for them in 2011-12. Former teammate Antoine Vermette has nine goals and three assists in his last nine games against Vancouver and scored six times in last seasons series. He recorded the latest of his three career hat tricks in a 5-4 overtime defeat in Vancouver on Jan. 26. PROJECTED LINES: Forwards D. Sedin - H. Following a pair of lopsided losses in San Jose to begin the Western Conference quarterfinals, the Los Angeles Kings will aim for a better showing in front of the home crowd Tuesday at the Staples Center. Ryan Anderson Jersey . Down 2-0 in the series, the Kings host Game 3 against a Sharks team that simply dominated them in the first two meetings of the best-of-seven series at SAP Center. Los Angeles trailed 5-0 en route to a 6-3 loss in Game 1. On Sunday, the Kings actually led 2-0 before San Jose scored seven unanswered goals to post a 7-2 blowout win and take a two-game lead in the series. Although losing by wide margins in Games 1 and 2 did not look good, the Kings and Sharks both know this series is far from over. Last spring, L.A. managed to come back from down 2-0 to win its first-round series in six games against the St. Louis Blues. In the next round, the Kings won all four of their home tilts to outlast San Jose in seven games. Of course, the Sharks also went 3-0 at home in that series and hold home-ice advantage in the 2014 rematch. Including the playoffs, Los Angeles has won eight straight and 10 of its last 11 home games against the Sharks. If the Kings fail to extend that home streak tonight, the club will face a do-or-die Game 4 on home ice this Thursday. All told, The Kings went 23-14-4 on home ice during the regular season. San Jose was 22-15-4. Kings forward Justin Williams did his best to sum up his teams situation following Sundays setback. "It obviously stinks sitting here, talking after another lopsided loss," said Williams. "But they did what they set out to do and now its response time. Were going back to our arena. We won the first two in our arena last year and they came back and won the next two in theirs. So were looking to repeat that, but we need to start with one." Joe Pavelski collected a goal and two assists to lead the way in San Joses Game 2 victory. Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture added a score and a helper each for the Sharks, who managed to score more in the first two games of this years series (13) than in all of last years seven-game loss to the Kings (10). Mike Brown, Raffi Torres, Joe Thornton and Justin Braun also recorded tallies, while Antti Niemi shook off a shaky first period to record a 24-save victory. "Its just been a couple of great nights for us offensively," Braun said. "Shored up a few things defensively, Niemi has bailed us out a few times. But you cant be that disappointed with that many goals in two games. Its been good so far at home." Jake Muzzin and Trevor Lewis provided first-period scores for the Kings, but L.A. failed to score over the final 50 minutes, 27 seconds of the game. "I dont really know if its one thing in particular," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "Again, we gave up a lot of odd-man rushes. Even in the first (period) when we were up 2-0, they had a lot of good chances. We need all 20 guys to be on top of their game." Jonathan Quick was left in net for all seven goals on 40 shots. The Conn Smythe winner when L.A. won the Stanley Cup in 2012, Quick has a dreadful 7.22 goals against average and .824 save percentage in the first two games of this set. He was pulled from Game 1 midway through the third period, but Kings head coach Darryl Sutter didnt blame his goaltender for Sundays setback. "I thought he was fine tonight," Sutter said of Quick. "Hell tell you that he struggled in the first game." The 28-year-old Quick entered this postseason with a career playoff line of 29-21 with a 2.03 GAA and.929 save percentage. Quicks GAA now stands at 2.19 through 52 career playoff games and his save percentage has dipped to .924. Jermain Defoes former manager is reportedly very interested in getting his striker back. Adrian Smith Jersey . According to a report in The Guardian, Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp - who managed Defoe with both Portsmouth and Tottenham - is interested in bringing the 32-year-old back to London. Though no deal is in place between QPR and Toronto FC, Redknapp went on record to state that he would welcome Defoe back to the Premier League. “He’s a player we’d be interested in in January, but it depends on the expense of the deal,” Redknapp told The Guardian. “Nothing is anywhere near being concluded. We tried to get him before the deadline but I don’t think there’s been any movement on that one. Defoe signed a four-year deal with TFC prior to the 2014 Major League Soccer season, but was rumoured to be unhappy in Toronto mid-way through his first season. In 19 games with the club in 2014, Defoe scored 11 goals. He would help lead Toronto FC to a strong start, with a 6-1-4 (19 points) record in the clubs first 11 contests. However, injuries would keep Defoe off the pitch for much of the second half of the season, with rumours of his return to the Premier League resurfacing near the end of the Fall transfer window. He appeared in just six contests after July 16, failing to score a single goal for the remainder of the season after 11 in 13 matches. “I’m a big fan of Jermain’s – I’ve signed him enough times, Redknapp said. He’s a goalscorer and a player you’d obviously like at your club if possible, but the figures would have to be right. I haven’t spoken to the chairman about it yet. We’ll see. I know what we need.” Larry Drew Jersey . "He has versatility," Browns general manager Ray Farmer said at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla. "The guy played a lot of tackle last year. Hes played guard. Right fielder Cole Gillespie committed two of Seattles season-high five errors in a 9-7 loss Sunday to the Kansas City Royals. The five errors were three more than they had in a game this year and the teams most since Sept. 5, 2011, against the Los Angeles Angels. "One thing I dont do is make excuses for guys, so the onus is on the players in the locker room today," McClendon said. Johnny Giavotella had a three-run homer in a four-run seventh inning, helping the Royals rally from a 7-5 deficit. Alcides Escobar had given the Royals the early lead with a second-inning grand slam off starter Roenis Elias. But the Mariners rallied behind Dustin Ackleys two homers and Kyle Seagers two-run shot to take the 7-5 lead after five innings. Danny Farquhar (1-1), though, took over in the seventh and yielded all four runs. Farquhar was upset by a critical call by home umpire Marcus Pattillo three batters before Giavotellas home run. The Royals seventh began with a double by Eric Hosmer. Farquhar then struck out Billy Butler and appeared to strike out Danny Valencia on a 2-2 curveball. But Pattillo called it a ball, causing Farquhar to throw up his arms in disgust. "Im pretty sure umpires dont like that," Valencia said. Farquhar was upset and it seemed to have an impact on the rest of his inning. He ended up walking Valencia and Alex Gordon, loading the bases. Lorenzo Cain tied it with a sacrifice fly to centre. Then Giavotella, promoted from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, hit Farquhars first pitch for his first home run. "Sometimes you want pitches and they are not called," Farquhar said. "You cant let that affect you. I want everything called a strike, so that is nothing different for me." Valencia added, its part of the game. Its going to happen. No ones perfect out there. Fortunately, it was in my favour." Royals manager Ned Yost, when asked about Farquhars borderline pitch, said, "We were upset when we didnt get a third strike on (Mike) Zunino, too, which ended up costing us two runs. Thats part of the game." That pitch came during the Mariners three-run, second-inning rally. After Ackley hit his first home run to open the iinning, Stephen Romero was hit by a pitch, bring up Zunino. Ken Willard Jersey. Starter Jeremy Guthrie believed he had Zunino struck out but it was called a ball. Zunino then singled to right and both runners scored on a double by Brad Miller, ending a 0-for-19 slide. Greg Holland came on in the ninth to pick up his ninth save in 10 opportunities. Louis Coleman (1-0), who worked a scoreless sixth, earned the victory. A pair of errors in the fourth allowed the Royals to build the lead by to 5-3. Giavotella walked and Escobar singled. Catcher Zunino tried to pick Giavotella off second but his throw scooted into centre for an error, with the runners advancing. First baseman Justin Smoak then bobbled Nori Aokis bouncer, allowing Giavotella to score. Seager, who missed the previous two games with flu-like symptoms, hit his sixth home run in the fourth followed by Ackleys second, his first career multihomer game. Ackley also had a home run in the sixth inning Saturday, giving him three in three straight at-bats. He has four on the season. "Ive been seeing the ball pretty well," Ackley said, "putting good swings on balls and not missing things." The Mariners added a run in the fifth on Corey Harts two-out single, scoring James Jones from second. Entering the game, the Royals had hit just 14 home runs, lowest in baseball. But seven of their nine runs scored via the long ball. "Sometimes errors are as contagious as hitting is," Ackley added. "Anything is contagious. We just have to scratch this one and move on. It was a tough game. I think we should have won it." NOTES: Mariners RF Michael Saunders, who slipped chasing a flyball in the third inning of Saturdays game, missed the game with a hyper-extended left knee. "Its a little sore but nothing thats going to hinder me from missing significant time," Saunders said. He pinch hit in the eighth and struck out. ... Mariners pitchers James Paxton (strained lat muscle) and Taijuan Walker (shoulder impingement) threw bullpen sessions before the game. Paxton is up to 40 pitches and will have another session Wednesday before a decision will be made where he will pitch next. Walker threw 25 pitches and will need at least a couple more sessions before the club considers a rehab assignment. ' ' '

CLEVELAND -- The weather may have done the Cleveland Indians, and outfielder Michael Brantley in particular, a favour. Fake Curry 3 . Wednesday nights game against the Los Angeles Angels was postponed by a steady rain that began during batting practice and escalated into heavy thunderstorms in the early evening. The postponement was announced shortly after the 7:05 p.m. scheduled start. No makeup date was announced. The Indians said Wednesday that Brantley, who leads the team with 11 homers and 46 RBIs while batting .323, has been diagnosed with a concussion and will likely be out of the lineup until Saturday. Cleveland cant afford to be without Brantley, who is second in the majors with eight outfield assists, for very long. He sounded encouraged after participating in some activities Wednesday. "Im getting better every day," Brantley said. "I played catch, hit off a tee and got a good workout in. Its all positive." The concussion was diagnosed when Brantley had tests Tuesday at the Cleveland Clinic. He was injured trying to break up a double play sliding into second base Monday. "Michael is doing very well," manager Terry Francona said. "Everything that has been introduced to him, the reaction tests, hes done very well." The team hopes to avoid placing Brantley on the seven-day concussion list. "The doctors, trainers and Michael think that Saturday is realistic," Francona said. "So as opposed to missing seven games, he could maybe miss five games." "I dont want to put a deadline on anything," Brantley said. "My goal is get back out there as fast as possible." Brantley was removed from Mondays game and passed an initial concussion test, but was sent to the hospital after experiencing discomfort during his pregame routine Tuesday. The Indians also hope the rainout will cool off the red-hot Mike Trout, who homered twice and had four RBIs in the Angels 9-3 win Tuesday. Francona joked following the game that he would like to see Trout get a day off so the two-time All-Star didnt tire out. Trout is batting .410 with eight homers and 26 RBIs over his last 22 games and has 14 RBIs in his last 13 games against Cleveland. While Trout has been sizzling, designated hitter Raul Ibanez has struggled with a .153 average. Manager Mike Scioscia is sticking with the 42-year-old veteran. "I think Raul hopefully is getting more comfortable in the box. Hes had some good at-bats in this series," Scioscia said. Ibanez is getting playing time because rookie C.J. Cron is also battling a slump and has only played once in the last week. The right-handed hitter is batting .275 this season, but is just 3 for his last 20 with seven strikeouts. Since the teams conclude the series Thursday with a noon start, the decision was made to not play a doubleheader and the game will be made up on a mutual day off. "Its never in anybodys best interest to play a doubleheader," Scioscia said. Both teams will stick with Wednesdays scheduled starters for the series finale. Left-hander C.J. Wilson will pitch for the Angels against right-hander Justin Masterson. Curry 3 Outlet . The club announced on Wednesday that Malhotra signed a 25-game professional tryout contract. Murray has lost more than 40 pounds and doctors have told him there is no cure. Despite his health issues, the 71-year-old was in good spirits at the leagues general managers meeting. Some days a little tired, but other than that I feel fine, Murray said as he held court with reporters for almost 10 minutes. Its always good to come to meetings and be involved and see whats happening in the world of our game. I hope to continue in that for a long time. The Senators announced over the summer that Murray had been diagnosed with cancer and was beginning treatment immediately. In a televised interview last week, Murray revealed the severity of his illness, which doctors say he was living with for seven to 10 years and has spread to his liver and lung. Murray said he did the interview only to reinforce how important it is to get a colonoscopy, which could have caught his cancer earlier. In his own life, Murray has already noticed an impact. Ive had some former players call me that played for me years ago that hadnt had any kind of medical attention to that area, he said. A nurse told me last night that four or five people at one of the clinics in Ottawa sent in and said because of the interview theyre kind of smart enough now to step up and get themselves examined. I hope and feel that its the right message and a good message and its worthwhile. Tim Murray, Bryans nephew, his former assistant GM in Ottawa and now the GM of the Buffalo Sabres, said last week he scheduled a colonoscopy. Beyond the awareness issue, Murray is putting on a brave face. We live our lives, Murray said. I go to the hospital, I see young people, young mothers and young children and if I cant be strong and brave, how can they be? I think that thats also a message that I am what I am, it is the way it is right now and theres no sense in hiding it. Murray will have chemotherapy Wednesday. He said doctors have been good to let him almost self-schedule appointments around his work with thee Senators. Under Armour Basketball Shoes Outlet. Assistant GMs Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee have been doing more travelling and scouting to help Murray out, but the longtime hockey man doesnt want to leave his duties because he has cancer. Im old enough to retire, my wife has told me that for the last four or five years, and shes right, Murray said. To be involved and active, I think is important, and for me to go home and sit on the couch doesnt make a lot of sense to me, so Im not going to do that. Eugene (Melnyk) has been very strong and involved with me and anything and everything as normal. I think that thats the way I want to operate right now. Murray hopes to operate like this as long as possible. Even while discussing his health, he made sure to bring the conversation to the Senators and their performance on the ice, now and in the future. This is not the end of anything other than we hope that we win some games in Ottawa this year and get some recognition come playoff time that were a contending team, Murray said. Murray is signed through the 2015-16 season after getting an extension in January. But hes not ready to think about next season. Thats depending on how it goes here and how I feel, Murray said. I think that theres a time when Ill retire, but I see a lot of young guys coming up in our organization and Id like to be around as they play better and better and grow up. Murrays colleagues were glad to see him at Tuesdays meeting but didnt make any point to recognize it. He was one of 30 GMs in the room, as always. Bryan was terrific today, his participation today was no different than its ever been, Lou Lamoriello of the New Jersey Devils said. Stan Bowman of the Chicago Blackhawks, who had Hodgkins lymphoma seven years ago, said its important to stay positive. We all support him, Bowman said. Whether its personal or friends or family, its one of the universal things in life and you have to battle through it. Murray said hockey colleagues have been very supportive. Sometimes I feel guilty I cant respond to them all as quickly as Id like to, Murray said. I try to do that and I will try to continue to do that. --- Follow @SWhyno on Twitter ' ' '

INDIANAPOLIS -- Ryan Hunter-Reay peeked around Helio Castroneves, then reversed course and dipped inside for a daredevil pass and the lead in the Indianapolis 500. Cheap Shoes For Sale . Castroneves charged back to the front, winning a drag race down the frontstretch at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And then, in a stirring wheel-to-wheel battle between a pair of bright yellow cars, Hunter-Reay seized the lead once more Sunday as the drivers hurtled across the Yard of Bricks with a single, 2.5-mile lap remaining. With nobody in front of him, Hunter-Reay used the entire track to keep Castroneves in his rearview mirror. He nipped him at the line by less than half a car length, denying his Brazilian rival a chance at history Sunday and becoming the first American in eight years to win the Indy 500. "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" had lived up to its nickname. "This race was ridiculously close and competitive," Hunter-Reay said. "Just glad I picked the right time to go." The finish was well worth the wait -- to the fans who watched 150 laps of caution-free racing, to the drivers who bided their time unsure of when they should charge to the front and to Hunter-Reay, who finally got to drink the celebratory milk in his seventh try. He beat Castroneves by just 0.060 seconds -- only the 1992 race had a closer finish when Al Unser Jr. beat Scott Goodyear by 0.043 seconds. "Im a proud American boy, thats for sure," Hunter-Reay said in Victory Lane before he was joined by his wife and son. "Ive watched this race since I was sitting in diapers on the floor in front of the TV. My son did it today. He watched me here. Im thrilled. This is American history, this race. This is American tradition." He was serenaded by chants of "USA! USA!" as he made his way around the post-race celebrations. He was joined by son Ryden, born shortly after Hunter-Reays 2012 IndyCar championship and wearing a miniature version of his fathers firesuit as his parents kissed the bricks. Castroneves, trying to become the fourth driver to win a fourth Indianapolis 500, settled for second. He needed several moments to compose himself, slumped in his car, head down and helmet on. The Brazilian said a caution with 10 laps to go broke his rhythm as red flag came out so track workers could clean debris and repair a track wall. "It was a great fight," he smiled. "I tell you what, I was having a great time. Unfortunately, second. Its good, but second sucks, you know what I mean?" Marco Andretti finished third and Carlos Munoz was fourth as Andretti Autosport had three cars in the top four, as well as the winner. Kurt Busch, also in a Honda for Andretti, finished sixth in his first race of the day. He left immediately for a flight after the race and arrived about an hour later in North Carolina for Sunday nights Coca-Cola 600, where his attempt to become the second driver to complete 1,100 miles in both races on the same day ended when his car blew an engine late. Busch ended up completing about 907 miles. "All in all, Im very pleased. I cannot believe the execution of this team," Busch said before hustling away for a helicopter ride to his waiting plane. "I tried to enjoy it. My throats real dry because I was smiling the whole time and the fresh air was coming in my mouth." Marco Andretti appeared to have a shot at the win, but after the final restart he never could mix it up with Hunter-Reay and Castroneves as the two leaders swapped position four times in the final five laps. So certain his son would be a contender for the victory Sunday, Michael Andretti was just as thrilled with Hunter-Reays win. "Ryans just been a huge part of our team, a great guy, a friend," said Michael Andretti, who won for the third time as a team owner. "He deserves it. He deserves to have his face on that trophy. If it couldnt be Marco, hes the next guy I wanted." A year ago, Hunter-Reay was passed for the lead with three laps remaining and went on to finish third as the race finished under caution. He was leading Sunday and had control of the race until Townsend Bells crash brought out the red flag. Hunter-Reay figured he was a sitting duck as the leader, his chances over. "I cant get a break," he lamented on his team radio. But after swapping the lead with Castroneves three times, including a dramatic inside move in Turn 3, Hunter-Reay made the final and decisive pass as the two cars took the white flag. "At the end of the day theres stupid and bravery, and I think we were right there on the edge, both of us," Castroneves said. "Im glad we both come out in a good way. Im sad it did not come out the way I wanted." Alex Tagliani of Lachenaie, Que., placed 13th while Jacques Villeneuve of Iberville, Que., was right behind him in 14th. The race went a record 150 laps without a caution as the pace zipped along and Busch at one point had no worries at all about getting to North Carolina in time for NASCARs longest event of the year. Then a Charlie Kimball spin brought out the first yellow, a crash by Scott Dixon led to a second caution and a risky three-wide move on the next restart caused pole-sitter Ed Carpenter and Canadian James Hinchcliffe to wreck. Carpenter was livid, calling out Hinchcliffe for an "amateur" move. "The moment when Hinch decided to make it three-wide was more than any of us could handle," Carpenter said. "I told him if he didnt have a concussion last week I would have punched him in the face." Hinchcliffe, of Oakville, Ont., cleared to drive last weekend after suffering a concussion two weeks ago in the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, accepted responsibility. "I was the last guy on the scene," he said. "I have to take the blame, for sure. I feel really bad for (Carpenter) because he had a great month and was doing a great job." The race resumed and Hunter-Reay was in control until the fourth and final caution, which led IndyCar to throw a rare red flag to allow the drivers a chance to race to the finish. "It went green the whole way and I love that," Hunter-Reay said. "Winning it under green like that with just a fantastic finish -- I hope the fans loved it because I was on the edge of my seat." "And Dray (Andray Blatche) came up with the ball and his intention was to get the ball to Deron (Williams), who was wide open, and it just didnt work out." ' ' '

Now, the seventh-seeded Huskies are off to the East Regional semifinals in New York City to see how much more bracket busting they can do a year after being barred from the post-season because of academic sanctions. Second-seeded Villanova became the highest seed to fall so far after Napier scored 25 points in leading UConn to a 77-65 victory Saturday night. The win came on the heels of another upset in Buffalo, where Dayton, the 11th seed in the South, beat third-seeded Syracuse 55-53. "I guess it means something to you guys but at the end of the day, just because theyre No. 2 and were No. 7, they dont get extra points to start the game off," Napier said. "Everybodys the same." UConn was better thanks to Napier, who scored 24 points two days earlier in an 89-81 overtime win against Philadelphias other tournament entry, Saint Josephs. Napier had 21 points in the second half and helped put the game away by hitting three consecutive 3-pointers to give the Huskies a 54-45 lead with 6:08 remaining. The star guard was limited to 8 minutes in the first half by foul trouble, and he avoided a major scare when he briefly left the game after hurting his right shin with 4:01 left. "The pain was excruciating. I couldnt put any pressure on it," Napier said. "Our trainer told me to mentally stay strong. ... He put that Bio-freeze on it, and I was ready to go." The freeze didnt cool him down once Napier returned after missing only about 40 seconds of action. Holding the ball atop the 3-point arc, he blew past a defender while driving into the paint and flipped in an underhanded reverse high off the backboard to put UConn ahead 60-51 with 2:19 remaining. Lasan Kromah scored 12 points for the Huskies, while DeAndre Daniels, Ryan Boatright and Terrence Samuel each had 11. Connecticut (28-8) advanced to face the winner of Sundays game between third-seeded Iowa State and No. 6 seed North Carolina. "Its unbelievable," UConn athletic director Warde Manuel said. "Its extra special, given what this team went through last year. Extra special." Manuel was referring to the academic sanctions that essentially rendered the Huskies 20-10 finish meaningless last year inn Kevin Ollies first season as coach. Vapormax 2021. . Ollie has improved to 2-0 in his tournament debut, two years since taking over after Jim Calhoun stepped down because of health issues. Ryan Arcidiacono scored 18 points for Villanova (29-5) in a matchup of former Big East rivals. James Bell had 14 and Darrun Hilliard added 13. "Certainly a tough way to end the season," Wildcats coach Jay Wright said. "I didnt want to let this put a damper on what this group has done all year." Villanova fell one win short of matching the school record set in 2009, when the Wildcats lost to North Carolina in the national semifinals. Napiers performance played a significant role. "He was just awesome," Wright said. "There was a period where he hit three 3s, and it just created a separation." Wright was referring to a surge during which UConn took control in a span of 1:32 as Napier made three consecutive 3-pointers to build a 51-40 advantage. Kromah started it and Napier struck a pose for the cameras after hitting the second 3 with 8:59 left. "He led us to victory," Ollie said. "He was just unbelievable in that second half: 21 points, crucial 3s, dagger 3s. He was 30 feet out and he was making them." The Huskies are marching on to Madison Square Garden in their first season as members of the American Athletic Conference after the Big East was realigned following a series of defections. Villanova remained a Big East holdover, but wound up being bounced by a familiar foe. The teams traded leads four times in the opening 5:25 of the second half, with Daniels putting UConn ahead for good, 37-36, with a layup. Poor shooting continued to haunt the Wildcats, who were coming off a 75-53 win over Milwaukee on Thursday. After hitting five of their first eight attempts through the first 6:11, the Wildcats closed the half going 2 of 15. Their offence went stone cold after Hilliard hit a 3 to put them up 19-9 with 11:30 left. Villanova went 11:24 without a field goal, missing 10 straight shots before Arcidiacono hit a 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds left in the first half that cut the Huskies lead to 25-24. Villanova was down 42-36 with 11:48 left when Hilliard drove into an opening on the right wing and, as he went up to shoot, the ball slipped out of his hands and bounced out of bounds. ' ' '

TAMPA, Fla. Ralph Sampson Jersey . -- The Winnipeg Jets felt much better after ending their road trip with a victory. Mark Scheifele scored 1:04 into overtime and the Jets beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Saturday night. Scheifele scored from the near post off a nifty pass by Blake Wheeler from the left-wing boards. "It was a great pass by Wheeler," Scheifele said. "I owe it all to him." Wheeler also had a goal for Winnipeg, which finished 4-2 on its longest road trip of the season. The Jets were coming off a 5-2 loss Thursday night at Florida. "It would have been disappointing to go home 3-3," coach Claude Noel said. "That would have been a tough one." Jets backup goalie Al Montoya made 28 saves. He caught a break during the first minute of overtime when Tampa Bays Alex Killorn sent a shot off the post. Tampa Bay got a goal from Nate Thompson, and backup goalie Anders Lindback stopped 34 shots. "He was exceptional when we needed him," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. Thompson tied it at 1 on a shot from the slot with just more than a second left in the second period. Martin St. Louis won an offensive zone faceoff before Radko Gudas sent a pass to Thompson, who had been thrown out of the faceoff circle and hadnt scored in his previous 19 games. With his assist, St. Louis moved past Jason Arnott into 91st place on the NHL points list with 939. Wheeler put the Jets up 1-0 on his 100th NHL goal 5:25 into the game. His redirection of Jacob Troubas shot eluded Lindback. Winnipeg, which held the lead after the first period for just the fifth time this season, outshot Tampa Bay 15-5 during the opening 20 minutes. "It was a tale of two games," Cooper said. "There was a clear distinction between the first 30 minutes and the last 30 minutes." Montoya made a nice save on Andrej Sustrs shot from the slot in the first. Lindback stopped an in-close backhander by Olli Jokinen during a Jets second-period power play. NOTES: The Jets are 8-6-4 in one-goal games. ... Linesman Brian Murphy worked his 1,500th NHL game. ... Nic Grigsby was superb in his CFL debut in Week 1, and the 25-year-old feels hes just getting started. "As the game went on my game started to come back," said Grigsby, who ran for 122 yards on 21 carries and added a pair of catches for 17. "It got a little slower. I still got a lot of stuff to get better on — just some little things and detail that coaches got on me about to be a better player and have a better game." The Bombers O-line opened up some wide lanes in the run game against the Argos. Winnipegs young tailback has history with one lineman in particular, who pulled from the right tackle spot to be the lead blocker on a couple big Grigsby gains up the middle. "Me and (Dan) Knapp, we went a long way (back)," said the University of Arizona product of his new favourite blocker. "We played against each other in college. He went to Arizona State, my rival, so when we got here in camp we bumped heads a little bit — not bumped heads — but just, you know, the rivalry-type stuff. But now were on the same team. Were in the same boat, and hes pulling for me and everything. I love them guys up front." The head coach isnt taken aback by Grigsbys impressive debut in the slightest. "Nope, didnt surprise me. Hes been steadily getting better all the way through camp," said Mike OShea. "My concern maybe early on was, he might not have taken advantage of every hole that was there, and now hes through it. It was just a matter of him getting comfortable with his vision, with his reads, and the CFL field — the size of it, I think. But hes done well." OShea is enamoured by Grigsbys ability to adapt and pick things up quickly. That goes double when youre protecting a lead late in the game. "One of the things thats impressive is, when were running that last three minutes and we have the ball and youre asking a guy to stay in bounds and slide, you know? For years and years and years American tailbacks come up here, they get in their first game and run out of bounds when we want that clock to run. You tell them and they still do it. But right away, I tell (Grigsby) once, he was sliding in bounds all the time making sure that clock kept running. Obviously hes an intelligent football player and took that instruction, basically in a three-second conversation, and applied it." With running back Will Ford still working to get back into game shape after a hamstring pull, and Paris Cotton out for a few weeks with a knee injury (hes been wearing a heavy brace in light on-ffield workouts during practice), Grigsbys fight to stay healthy enough to play has also impressed the coaching staff. Willie Cauley-Stein Jersey. "Its as good as its going to get right now," scoffed Grigsby playfully. "Everybody is banged-up and bruised. Nobodys at 100 per cent, I dont care who you are, (even) if youre a quarterback. Its day-to-day of getting better. Get your body in the cold tub, getting the therapy, and come ready to play. "You know youve got to be durable in this league. Its all about growing and depending on yourself to actually do the extra little things thats going to keep you on the field." This week sees another challenge, in that the Blue Bombers will try to prepare for their Week 2 opponent — the expansion Ottawa Redblacks — having minimal game film to study. Ottawa had a bye in Week 1. "Were going out there blind to the eye other than what the base preseason games are. And a lot of teams keep preseason really base," said Grigsby of the "vanilla" offence the Redblacks have shown. "Our coaching staff did a great job putting (video) cut-ups of the (Redblacks) coaches that they have now and what they did in the past, so were going to use that to our ability. Come game time there is that adjust-on-the-fly and be ready to go." NOTES: Eleven-year CFL veteran Korey Banks asked the team for his release this week after not securing a job in the teams starting lineup. The club has placed him on the suspended list indefinitely and flown him home to Atlanta... Mike OShea says he doesnt want to tinker too much with a lineup that looked pretty solid in Week 1. National cornerback Donovan Alexander may be ready to return following a calf injury, but Matt Bucknor will continue to start at field corner... Tailback Will Ford (hamstring) may be ready to go as well after missing both preseason games, but Nic Grigsby will start with the ball... Defensive backs Alex Suber (hamstring) and Marty Markett (high-ankle sprain) both still need time to recover and are again out this week... Slotback Cory Watson suffered a hamstring injury in the first half Thursday night and didnt return to the game. The 30-year-old will miss a week, at least, and it appears fellow national receiver Julian Feoli-Gudino, who hauled in a touchdown pass in Watsons second half absence, will start in his place... Defensive tackle Zach Anderson has missed some significant practice time this week with a heel contusion. OShea says he should be ready for the game... Another defensive tackle, Bryant Turner, has been excused from practice this week for the birth of his daughter. The 2013 Eastern All-Star is expected to play against Ottawa. If either Turner or Anderson are unable to go Thursday night, Kashawn Fraser is an option to come off the practice roster and dress. ' ' '

ZURICH, Switzerland -- FIFA says doping samples from World Cup players in South America are arriving at a laboratory in Switzerland within 33 hours. Cheap Shoes Fake . FIFA and the World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited lab in Lausanne are under time pressure to test samples before a players next match several days later. Testing for the World Cup in Brazil is being done in Lausanne because WADA stripped the Rio de Janeiro labs status for repeated errors. All 736 players at the World Cup will provide pre-tournament blood and urine samples. FIFA chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak says the first 750 samples have arrived in Switzerland "from several Latin American countries in less than 33 hours." Dvorak says all samples arrived in good condition in cooled transit boxes. Two players from each team are randomly chosen to give samples after each match. Cheap Shoes . Snedekers best result so far this year is a tie for eighth place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. He sits 113th in FedEx Cup standings and has dropped to 31st in world rankings — not the results expected from a player ranked fourth in the world only two years ago. The 29-year-old from Port Colborne, Ont., who trains out of San Diego, will fight bantamweight champion (Rowdy) Ronda Rousey on July 5 in the co-main event of UFC 175 in Las Vegas.LONDON -- Although he has not won a trophy in eight years, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger keeps enjoying the backing of the clubs owner and thinks a prolonged stay could make him "immortal." Wenger, the longest serving manager in the English Premier League after 17 years in charge, reiterated his desire to stay at the London club beyond next summer when his contract expires. "Honestly, I would love to be here forever because that would mean I would be immortal," Wenger told a news conference on Friday ahead of Arsenals trip to Swansea. "Im not naive enough to believe that. What I would like to do as long as I am here is give my best for this club because I love this club." The Frenchman was targeted by Paris Saint-Germain last season but this week received the full backing of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, who said he wants him to remain on a long-term basis and feels "totally aligned" with Wenger. "I am very honoured to have the support of Stan Kroenke," said Wenger, adding that he has turned away many jobs offers during his tenure. "That he thinks I can help the club is a huge confidence vote. That is something for me that is very positive. I dont know (when I will sign a new contract). When we find time." Not everyone at the club seemed to share the owners views earlier thiis season when Wenger was criticized by supporters for his failure to attract big players. Cheap Shoes For Sale. But the signing of German playmaker Mesut Ozil for a club-record transfer fee of 50 million euros combined with the Gunners good start to the season has eased tensions. Arsenal, whose last trophy was an FA Cup in 2005, tops the Premier League standings after five games for its best start in five years -- reversing a trend of slow starts. Wenger is also credited for the clubs healthy financial results over the years. But many fans are craving for another trophy, nostalgic of an era when the Gunners were fighting toe to toe for the Premier League title every season. Wenger, who was appointed as Arsenal manager in October 1996, did not take long to win his first trophy, guiding the Gunners to the Premier League title in 1998. He won it again in 2002 and triumphantly claimed a third crown two years later as his side stayed unbeaten during the entire league campaign. "Our job has a good advantage: You just look forward to the next game. You never look back," said Wenger, being asked to reflect on his 17 years in charge. "I believe that is the most important. Of course when you look backward, theres a lot of effort and consistency in effort behind that. For me the most interesting is tomorrows game." ' ' '

DALLAS -- The Portland Trail Blazers no longer are chasing the San Antonio Spurs in the NBAs Western Conference. Reggie Theus Jersey . LaMarcus Aldridge had 30 points and 12 rebounds, and the Trail Blazers beat the Dallas Mavericks 127-111 on Saturday night to pull even with the Spurs at 31-9. The Trail Blazers have won five consecutive games, including a 109-100 victory at San Antonio on Friday. "I was really proud of the way our team played, especially on the heels of an emotional win in San Antonio," coach Terry Stotts said. "Our resolve, defensively, I thought was very good and got us into a position to have a large lead." The lead reached 38 points at 111-73 with 9:43 to play. A 25-2 surge against Portlands bench brought Dallas within 15 points with 4:38 remaining before the starters returned to restore order. The Trail Blazers, the NBAs highest-scoring team, reached 30 points in the first quarter for the 14th time in 2013-14, and 100 points in three quarters for the fourth time. "We are just playing great basketball right now," Aldridge said. "Whenever guys guard the way they can, this team is good." Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 18 points in 21 minutes. All five Portland starters scored in double figures, and Aldridge, Robin Lopez and Damian Lillard (14 points, 10 assists) each recorded a double-double. "The first three quarters were beyond embarrassing," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "We were poor on offence, too. We werent playing together. We werent helping each other. "You do that against a high-level quality team like Portland, theyre going to make you pay a heavy price." Portland outrebounded Dallas 55-30, scored 60 points in the paint and had 22 second-chance points. Nicolas Batum shot 6 for 7 and scored 15 of his 21 points in the first quarter as the Trail Blazers opened a 35-23 lead. "They were double-teaming LaMarcus," Batum said, "so the other four guys around him moved around to get open. Were a shooting team." Portland shot 51 per cent (46 for 90) for the game, including 59 per cent (26 for 44) for a 71-52 halftime lead. The Trail Blazers defence also was superb, holding the Mavericks to 39 per cent shooting (26 for 66) while running up a 104-70 lead after three quarters. Portland had 30 fast-break points to Dallas 5. "Theyre obviously a tough team to defend," Nowitzki said. "They have LaMarcus on the block and they have shooters out there. They really got whatever they wanted for three quarters and they were very good." Carlisle found a silver lining in the fourth quarter, when the Mavericks outscored the Trail Blazers 41-23. "The guys that were in there in the fourth quarter really fought," he said. "Im going to find guys that will fight and get them in the game, simple as that." Jae Crowder scored all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter, and DeJuan Blair had 11 of his 13. The Mavericks Devin Harris played 17 minutes and scored six points in his first game this season following toe surgery. Harris played the first 3 1/2 of his 10 NBA seasons with Dallas, and re-signed with the team last summer, but missed the first 41 games. He received a standing ovation when he entered the game with 3:22 remaining in the first quarter. Harris missed his first two free throws, but hit a long 2-point field goal at the buzzer later in the quarter. "I actually like what I saw," Nowitzki said. "Were looking forward to getting him out there more and more and playing at a high level." Portlands lead grew to 18 in the second quarter, but the Mavericks battled back within 54-46 with an 18-8 run. With the Trail Blazers starting lineup back in the game, they scored 17 of the final 23 points in the second quarter. Aldridge and Batum each had 17 first-half points. The third quarter also started well for Portland, which quickly stretched its advantage to 83-58. NOTES: Dallas Shawn Marion made his 1,000th NBA start. . The Trail Blazers are just 8-6 when they have scored 30-plus points in the first quarter, but theyre 4-0 when reaching 100 in just three quarters. They entered the night averaging 109.1 points per game. ... The Mavericks reassigned rookie guard Ricky Ledo to Texas of the NBA Development League. He has played in only nine games for Dallas, averaging 3.3 minutes and 1.9 points. ... Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was fined $100,000 for confronting officials on the court and using inappropriate language after Wednesdays game against the Clippers in Los Angeles. ... When asked what knowledge Stotts had gained after Portland won only 33 games last season, Carlisle joked about his former assistant, "You mean other than what he stole here?" Larry Drew Jersey . - A mixed martial arts fighter who changed his name to War Machine was ordered Friday to stand trial in Nevada state court on 34 felony charges including attempted murder, sexual assault and kidnapping that could get him life in prison for allegedly attacking his porn star ex-girlfriend and her friend. Stitched Kings Jerseys . Fognini won 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 after Argentinas Carlos Berlocq had beaten Andreas Seppi 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 on the outdoor clay surface. Doubles are set for Saturday with reverse singles on Sunday to decide which team reaches the quarterfinals. https://www.cheapkingsbasketball.com/ . -- Claudio Bieler hadnt scored since early September, and not from the run of play since mid-July. NEW YORK -- Carmelo Anthonys three straight 3-pointers in a 15-0 third-quarter run were just what the Knicks thought they needed to break away from the Detroit Pistons. "Coming out of halftime, we said we just need one run to just separate ourselves," Anthony said. But to win it, they needed Anthony to grab one big rebound against a bigger front line, then hit a couple of finishing free throws. Anthony scored 13 of his 34 points in the third, then put it away with two free throws with 2.9 seconds left as the Knicks handed the Pistons a season-high fifth straight loss with an 89-85 victory on Tuesday night. Raymond Felton finished with 12 points and six assists in his return from injury for the Knicks, who came home from a 2-1 Texas swing and held on after blowing most of the 17-point lead they built while outscoring the Pistons 32-17 in the third quarter. Andrea Bargnani had 13 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Knicks overcome the absence of an ill Tyson Chandler to beat the Pistons at Madison Square Garden for the eighth straight time. Josh Smith had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit, while Andre Drummond finished with 12 points and 17 boards. The Pistons were 3 of 19 on 3-pointers and badly missed reserve guard Rodney Stuckey, who missed his third straight game with a sore shoulder, because starters Brandon Jennings and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope shot a combined 3 for 18. "We had a very good effort," coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We were able to fight back, but we couldnt make any shots at the end." Anthony finally brought some offence to an ugly game in the third. He drilled three in a row from behind the arc, the first two from nearly the same spot in front of old teammate and current Pistons assistant coach Rasheed Wallace, to make it 58-49. Felton followed with a jumper before Anthony dunked to cap a 15-0 spurt and give the Knicks a 62-49 advantage. Jennings ended the run with Detroits first 3-pointer of the game, but Amare Stoudemire and Anthony had baskets before Iman Shumpert converted a three-point play when Greg Monroe made a feeble attempt to foul him, as the lead ballooned to 69-52. Maurice Stokes Jersey. The Pistons had six baskets and seven turnovers in the period, which ended with the Knicks leading 73-58. Detroit put together an 11-3 run to cut it to 86-85 on Charlie Villanuevas free throw with 46 seconds left. The Pistons got a chance for the lead after Anthony was charged with an offensive foul, but Smith was woefully short on a jumper with 9.9 seconds left that Cheeks wished had been a drive to the basket instead. "I didnt get the shot I wanted. Im still beating myself up for that," Smith said. "I couldve been a little more aggressive and try to put the initiative on the referees to make a call. It was a shot that is definitely going to be with me until the next game so I can get it out of my head." Felton was fouled and missed the second free throw, but Anthony came away with the rebound, was fouled and made both. Felton played for just the second time in 14 games, having strained his right groin on Dec. 23 in his return from a six-game absence with a strained left hamstring. He was perhaps fatigued down the stretch, making a pair of turnovers that nearly cost the Knicks. "We got a win, thats the main thing," Felton said. The Knicks jumped to a 16-8 lead in the first 5 1/2 minutes before the messiness ensued. New York shot just 33 per cent from the field in the first half and was only 4 of 9 from the free throw line, yet was able to manage a 41-all tie. The Pistons backcourt did its part to help the Knicks, with Jennings and Caldwell-Pope combining to go 0 for 8 and Chauncey Billups coming off the bench to miss all three of his attempts. The Pistons were 0 of 8 from 3-point range in the half. Notes: Detroit fell to 6-1 against the Atlantic Division. ... Knicks forward Metta World Peace said he expected to miss two weeks after having an unspecified procedure on both knees Monday. ... Knicks coach Mike Woodson said guard Pablo Prigioni, out since breaking a toe on Dec. 16, got more treatment Tuesday and the team would have a better feel for his status Wednesday. ' ' '

Baseball season is just around the corner and TSN. Vapormax 2020 .ca has you covered for whos in, whos out and what to expect from all 30 teams. Check in every day this week for two new division previews, finishing up with Scott MacArthurs look at the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Heres what to expect out of the American League East in 2014. Baltimore Orioles GM: Dan Duquette Manager: Buck Showalter 2013: 85-77, third in AL East. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: The Os came into 2013 feeling like world-beaters. Having out-performed presumed playoff candidates like the Tampa Bay Rays and the disappointing Boston Red Sox in the American League East and taken the wild card playoff berth from the defending A.L.-Champion Texas Rangers, the Orioles were expected to challenge in an even tougher East. However, despite career years out of first baseman Chris Davis and closer Jim Johnson, the Orioles were unable to repeat the feat. The pieced-together rotation saw four starters hit 20-plus starts but only 16-7 Chris Tillman was able to carry a heavy load, logging 206.1 innings, meaning their (admittedly excellent) bullpen was once again leaned upon to the tune of 500-plus innings. Davis had a star-making year, setting career-highs in home runs, runs batted-in, average, OPS and total bases while hitting the 160-game plateau for the first time in his career. He became the second Oriole in MLB history to surpass the 50-home run plateau, after Brady Andersons "surprise" 1996 outing. When the dust settled, the Os finished level with the depleted Yankees for third in the Division and were left figuring out ways to recapture their 2012 team spirit and compete once more. This is Now: Apparently the best way to improve is to ship 50 saves over to a fellow Wild Card contender. Johnson, who was arbitration-eligible this past winter could become a free agent at the end of 2014, may well have priced himself out of Baltimore, but the man did still put up over 100 saves over the past two seasons. So the closers gig is now up for grabs with the likes of Darren ODay, Ryan Webb and former starter Tommy Hunter looking to get the ball in the ninth. Jemile Weeks - the return from Oakland for Johnson - will likely take over the lions share of the work at second with Brian Roberts Bronx-bound. Meanwhile, the Os offensive core of Davis, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis remains intact. If Manny Machado can be more of the guy he was between April through June (that is a .300-plus hitter on pace for 80-plus RBI) and not the guy that slumped through July and September with a sub-.200 average, the bats could carry this team. The Orioles took advantage of the late-winter market for free agent bats once theyd already forfeited their first-rounder to bring in Nelson Cruz. The bullpen workhorses - Hunter, ODay, T.J. McFarland - are all returning and the rotation has been bolstered with the additions of Korean free agent Suk-Min Yoon and Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez late in the winter, but will they be able to keep pace if the Yankees and Rays return to push for the Red Sox division crown? Whos In?: IF David Adams (claimed from CLE), RP Brad Brach (trade with SD), OF Nelson Cruz (one-year contract), RP Edgmer Escalona (one-year contract), SP Ubaldo Jimenez (four-year contract), UT Steve Lombardozzi (trade with DET), OF Francisco Peguero (one-year contract), SP Johan Santana (minor league contract), RP Ryan Webb (two-year contract), 2B Jemile Weeks (trade with OAK), SP Suk-Min Yoon (international free agent). Whos Out?: OF Chris Dickerson (signed with PIT), SP Scott Feldman (signed with HOU), RP Jim Johnson (trade with OAK), OF Nate McLouth (signed with WAS), OF Michael Morse (signed with SF), IF 2B Brian Roberts (signed with NYY), RP Francisco Rodriguez (signed with MIL), C Chris Snyder (signed with WAS), C Taylor Teagarden (signed with NYM). Boston Red Sox GM: Ben Cherington Manager: John Farrell 2013: 97-65, first in AL East. World Series Champions. That was Then: The Sox went into 2013 under a cloud of uncertainty as to whether additions like Mike Napoli or Shane Victorino would be enough to get them out of the Eastern cellar. There was also some concern as to whether John Farrell - recruited from the fourth-place Blue Jays - was the right man to lead the team from the bench. However, on April 15, the Sox 2012 struggles became a triviality in Boston. The City -shaken by the Boston Marathon bombings - rallied together under the "Boston Strong" mantra and the Sox returned the favour. The Sox would go 15-4 to finish April and would never look back atop the East. Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz (despite the latter missing a sizable chunk of the season with a neck strain) both had tremendous seasons and the veteran leadership of Napoli and Victorino added to the core group including David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia to power the Sox to their first division crown since their 2007 World Series triumph. Staring down a possible 0-2 deficit in the ALCS, Ortiz grand slam brought the Sox level with the Detroit Tigers and turned the playoff picture around for the team. The Red Sox would complete the "Boston Strong" narrative with a six-game World Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals to win their third title in 10 years. This is Now: Theres been some change to endure for the Sox over the winter, so the re-shaped Sox may once again need some time to gel. The most notable absence will be lead-off man Jacoby Ellsbury, who jumped ship to the arch-rival Yankees. The Sox will undoubtedly miss his presence on the base-paths as he was the League leader in steals in 2013. The Sox may have found an unlikely replacement in the form of camp-invite Grady Sizemore, who has not played a Major League game since 2011. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will give way to A.J. Pierzynski behind the plate, while 21-year-old Xander Bogaerts will take over from Stephen Drew at shortstop. Bogaerts will be one of two crucial young cogs for the Sox, as they may also need 23-year-old Jackie Bradley to pick up some of the slack in centre. The Sox did well to insulate now-undisputed closer Koji Uehara with Cardinals closer Edward Mujica and should have a reliable rotation with a healthy Buchholz as well as a full year of Jake Peavey. Was 2013 a product of shrewd management or one of emotional momentum? The Sox will likely be able to forget their days of cellar-dwelling, but whether they can keep ahead of the rest of the East remains to be seen. Whos In?: P Blake Badenhop (trade with MIL), SP Chris Capuano (one-year contract), IF Jonathan Herrera (trade with COL), RP Edward Mujica (two-year contract), C A.J. Pierzynski (one-year contract), OF Grady Sizemore (free agent). Whos Out?: SP Alfredo Aceves (signed with BAL), RP Andrew Bailey (non-tendered), SS Stephen Drew (qualifying offer declined),OF Jacoby Ellsbury (signed with NYY), IF John McDonald (signed with LAA), RP Franklin Morales (trade with COL), C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (signed with MIA), RP Matt Thornton (signed with NYY). New York Yankees GM: Brian Cashman Manager: Joe Girardi 2013: 85-77, fourth in AL East. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: The Yankees were forced to scramble to fill some roster holes in 2013, looking to the likes of Vernon Wells, Lyle Overbay and Travis Hafner to fill production vacancies left by Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez and more. A strong April got the Yanks off to a decent enough start, but the team was middling throughout most of the rest of the season. Team captain Derek Jeter was in and out of the line-up all year long with injuries to his ankle, calf and quadriceps, making 2013 a continuation of how his 2012 season ended. Mariano Rivera said goodbye to the Majors, picking up keepsakes in nearly every city in the latter half of the season, while Alex Rodriguez opted to fight the 211-game suspension he was handed for his part in the Biogenesis scandal and defiantly finished the season with the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers made do with what they had in 2013, but it wasnt nearly up to their fans lofty standards. They would finish the year tied for third with the Orioles while posting their lowest winning percentage since 1992. This is Now: A year without Jeter, the A-Rod rodeo and the Mariano Rivera farewell tour are all things of the past. Unfortunately for Yankees fans, the future does not include Robinson Cano at second base, the 31-year-old chasing top dollar and signing with the Seattle Mariners in the off-season. Never afraid to spend, the Yankees have brought in a lot of options via free agency to compete for playing time. Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran replace Curtis Granderson and Wells. Kelly Johnson and Brian Roberts will both vie for Canos job at second while Brian McCann comes in behind the plate. The Yanks also lured the off-seasons biggest international free agent to the Bronx, plucking Masahiro Tanaka from Japan at a cost of $155 million over seven years. Pressure will likely be huge to make the Jeter era end on a high note as the franchise bids farewell to one of its icons. However, the Yanks deep pockets and "winning it for the captain" might not be enough if the teams age starts to show. Whos In?: OF Carlos Beltran (three-year contract), OF Jacoby Ellsbury (seven-year contract), 2B Kelly Johnson (one-year contract), C Brian McCann (five-year contract), 2B Brian Roberts (one-year contract), SS Brendan Ryan (two-year contract), SP Masahiro Tanaka (seven-year contract), RP Matt Thornton. Whos Out?: IF David Adams (signed with CLE), OF Brennan Boesch (signed with LAA), SS Reid Brignac (signed with PHI), 2B Robinson Cano (signed with SEA), RP Joba Chamberlain (signed with DET), IF Luis Alfonso Cruz (released), IF Alberto Gonzalez (signed with SD), OF Curtis Granderson (signed with NYM), SP Phil Hughes (signed with MIN), 3B Brent Lillibridge (signed with TEX), RP Boone Logan (signed with COL), IF Jayson Nix (signed with TB), 1B Lyle Overbay (signed with MIL), SP Andy Pettitte (retired), IF Mark Reynolds (signed with MIL), RP Mariano Rivera (retired), C Chris Stewart (signed with PIT), OF Vernon Wells (released), 3B Kevin Youkilis (signed in Japan). Tampa Bay Rays GM: Andrew Friedman Manager: Joe Maddon 2013: 91-71, second in AL East. Lost to Boston in American League Division Series. That was Then: Stop us if youve heard this before, but a shrewd piece of off-season business proved to be a catalyst for the Rays success last season. Trading James Shields to the Kansas City Royals brought in one of the games top prospects in Wil Myers and the 23-year-old turned on the jets almost the minute he made his full-time debut for the Rays in June. Less than a week into his MLB career, Myers had his first grand slam and the kid would hit .293, driving in 53 runs in 88 games en route to the A.L. Rookie of the Year Award. The Rays responded in kind to Myers arrival, losing just five games in July and finishing strong to force not one, but two win-and-youre-in playoff games after a three-way tie left the Rays, Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers tied after Game 162. David Price went the full nine to top the Rangers in Game 163 and Tampa blanked the Indians to make the ALDS. There they would run into destiny in the form of the Boston Red Sox, but the Rays booked another solid season, proving themselves once again to be one of baseballs model franchises. This is Now: The Rays will once again piece together their line-up and try to get maximum efficiency out of low-profile pick-ups. James Loney and Yunel Escobar will stick around in the infield and be insulated by Logan Forsythe. Fernando Rodneys arrows will head towards someone elses rafters, replaced by former As closer Grant Balfour and one-time stud Heath Bell, whom manager Joe Maddon believes will show marked improvement at the Trop. Any team with Maddon at the helm has a fighting chance and the Rays still have tremendous balance both at the plate with Evan Longoria anchoring the line-up and on the mound with Matt Moore and Alex Cobb emerging as legitimate threats alongside Price. Speaking of Price, the vultures will be circling soon enough as the 28-year-olds clock appears to be winding down in Tampa. Likely the next high profile casualty of Tampas tight budget, Price is free agent-eligible after next season, putting his value at arguably its high-point by the middle or end of the 2014 campaign. If the Rays dont get the kind of performance to which theyve become accustomed, could a mid-season move be in the cards? Whos In?: RP Grant Balfour (two-year contract), RP Heath Bell (trade with ARI), RP Brad Boxberger (trade with SD), IF Logan Forsythe (trade with SD), C Ryan Hanigan (trade with CIN). Whos Out?: RP Jesse Crain (signed with HOU), 1B Shelley Duncan (signed with ARI), OF Sam Fuld (signed with OAK), SP Roberto Hernandez (signed with PHI), IF Kelly Johnson (signed with NYY), IF Ryan Roberts (signed with CHC), RP Fernando Rodney (signed with SEA), RP Alex Torres (trade with SD), RP Jamey Wright (signed with LAD), RP Wesley Wright (signed with CHC), OF Delmon Young (signed with BAL). Ho-Sang is a highly regarded prospect, as seen in TSNs Midseason Rankings. This was Game 3 of their playoff series and that wasnt the only strange incident in Londons 10-2 win over Windsor.Hes the most prolific receiver in CFL history and a future member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, but theres no guarantee Geroy Simon will return to help the Saskatchewan Roughriders defend their Grey Cup title. The Riders acquired the veteran slotback from the B.C. Lions in January 2013 to provide veteran leadership for a squad looking to make a successful Grey Cup run on home soil. After enduring one of the worst seasons statistically of his illustrious CFL career, Simon stood tall in the title game, registering three catches for 67 yards and two TDs in leading Saskatchewan to a 45-23 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Mosaic Field. However, Brendan Taman, the Riders general manager and vice-president of football operations, couldnt guarantee Simons return during a CFL conference call Tuesday. "Geroy and I have, obviously, a pretty good relationship so when we made this deal last year to acquire him we knew at the end of the first year he played for us that wed sit down and talk about his role," Taman said. "Obviously we have a contract issue were going to have to talk about, too, so that plan is ongoing ... those talks are progressing, you could say, one way or the other. "Hes got as good a chance of not being back as he will be back." The six-foot 198-pound Simon, who turns 39 in September, had just 40 catches for 565 yards and three TDs last year, missing the first three regular-season games due to injury. The native of Johnstown, Pa., is the most prolific receiver in CFL history with 1,029 receptions for 16,352 yards -- both all-time records -- with 103 TDs ovver 15 seasons. Clearance Air Vapormax. "Obviously he had a good year for us and did a good job for us," Taman said. "His status for 14 is to be determined and were still in talks about that." At the root of the talks, not surprisingly, is money. Simon was reportedly set to earn $205,000 with B.C. heading into the 2013 season. But the Lions were prepared to pay roughly half that while giving Simon a reduced role. When Simon and the Lions couldnt reach an agreement, GM Wally Buono, out of respect for the veteran, gave Simon permission to seek a trade rather than release him outright. When the Riders acquired Simon, they signed him to a one-year deal, plus an option, that reportedly called for a $170,000 base salary that, with bonuses, could increase to about $200,000. "There was an agreement in place that after the first year we would talk about a second year going forward," Taman said. "That was mainly, obviously, financial related. "Right now hes still on the same contract that he was on and if we can work that out and (it) stays that way well see. But we have some discussions we still have to do with him." Given the off-season departures of running back Korey Sheets (Oakland, NFL) and Weston Dressler (Kansas City, NFL), Simon was expected to be a key figure in the Riders offence this season. Also gone from Saskatchewans Grey Cup-winning squad are safety Craig Butler (free agent, Hamilton), defensive linemen Keith Shologan (Ottawa expansion draft) and Jermaine McElveen (free agent, Montreal) as well as linebacker Diamond Ferri (free agent, Montreal). The Minnesota Wild got Zach Parise back from injury and Marco Scandella back from illness just in time. Cristian Pache Jersey . Parise had two goals after missing five games with a concussion, and Scandella had the game-winner in overtime to give Minnesota a 4-3 victory over Winnipeg on Sunday. Minnesota blew a 3-0 lead in the third period before Scandellas low wrist shot from just inside the blue line beat Michael Hutchinson at 1:01. Scandella said he didnt realize the puck went in until he saw teammate Jason Pominvilles reaction. He was just screaming, so I was like, Whoa. Maybe I put that one in, Scandella said. It was nice. Especially nice for Minnesota since the Wild was reeling after Winnipeg scored three goals in five minutes in the third. The Jets outshot Minnesota 22-14 in the second and third periods. Their physical play led to 14 penalties in the second period, eight against the Wild. We ended up being short-handed so many times that we just lost a lot of the rhythm on our game, and its not the recipe we want to have, Wild coach Mike Yeo said. The Jets went 0-for-8 on the power play, including two 5 on 3s that lasted 36 and 47 seconds. Michael Frolik ended Niklas Backstroms shutout bid at 5:55 with a wrist shot from the left side of the net. Then Evander Kane scored his second goal this season when his backhander from the bottom of the right circle bounced off Backstroms pads and in between his legs at 8:19. Less than three minutes later, Adam Pardys shot from the point deflected off Andrew Ladd to make it 3-3 and fired up the loud contingent of Jets fans. Im really, really proud the way they handled a couple of real bad breaks there in the first period that would have shattered most teams, Jets coach Paul Maurice said. We got a little snarl on and fought our way back. Darcy Kuemper replaced Backstrom, who finished with 19 saves, after Ladds goal. Kuemper stopped all three shots he faced. Its frustrating to lose a game, especially when you came back and you came so close, but when you really look back on it youll see a lot of positives from this road trip, how we really came together and battled, Hutchinson said. Later on down the road this could be a huge point for us. It didnt take long for Parise to give his team a lift — his first goal came at 4:11 of the first with Minnesota already up 1-0. Parises pass from the right circle caromed off Jets right wing Blake Wheeler past Ondrej Pavelec to make it 2-0. His second goal didnt come off his stick either. About 15 minutes later, Pavelec blocked Jared Spurgeons shot, but the rebound hit off Parises leg and went into the net to put the Wild up 3-0. However they go in, Parise said. Looking back early in the year we werent getting those type of bounces for our team. Hopefully they continue. Nino Niederreiter, the Wilds leading goal scorer, gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead 2:07 into the game on a pretty wrap around that sent the puck around Pavelecs outstretched right leg and into the net. Hutchinson replaced Pavelec to start the second period and finished with 15 saves. Notes: Scandella scored his third goal of the season and prevented the Wild from losing their second game this year after losing a three-goal lead. . . Winnipeg entered the game allowing an average of two goals per game, tied for second in the league. . .Wild D Ryan Suter had a career-high eight penalty minutes after tallying four all season.. . Parise still leads Minnesota in points (six goals, six assists) this season, despite missing five games. Biff Pocoroba Jersey .com) - Carmelo Anthony scored 31 points with eight rebounds to lead the New York Knicks to a 92-80 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Custom Braves Jerseys .Brazil midfielder Ricardo Goulart scored the winner in the 50th minute to give the defending champion a four-point advantage in the standings over second-place Sao Paulo, which beat rival Palmeiras 2-0. http://www.custombravesjersey.com/custom-pedro-borbon-jr-jersey-large-547z.html . Having won the first leg 1-0 in Barcelona, Madrid entered the match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium already in control and quickly sealed its place in the semifinals when Jese Rodriguez scored in the seventh minute. TORONTO -- Four games, four wins, two shutouts and just three goals given up. Martin Jones entry into the NHL just keeps getting better and better. The 23-year-old from North Vancouver stopped 38 shots and Jeff Carter and Kyle Clifford scored third-period goals as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 for their fifth straight win Wednesday. Jones, who grew up a Canucks fan, has now beaten two Original Six teams in Montreal and Toronto in addition to wins over the Islanders and Anaheim. "I try not to think about that too much," he said when asked about his impressive run. "I just make sure Im ready when I am called upon, just try to give these guys a chance to win. Weve got a great team here. Its not like Im getting called upon to steal games here, its give these guys a chance to win, a couple of big saves here and there." It was athlete-speak worthy of a veteran. But Jones, who stopped 18 shots in the third, flashed a big grin when asked if he was having fun. "Yeah, Im trying to enjoy it as well," said the former Calgary Hitman who has spent the last three seasons with the Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester, N.H. Jones, whose hot hand has eclipsed ex-Leaf Ben Scrivens in the absence of injured No. 1 Jonathan Quick, now boasts a .974 save percentage, 0.74 goals-against average and has stopped 111 of 114 shots. Carter beat former teammate Jonathan Bernier with a wrist shot between the legs on a two-on-one at 9:40 for his eighth of the year. Defenceman Paul Ranger failed to keep the puck in the Los Angeles end, creating the odd-man rush. "Bad decision," said Carlyle. "In a 1-1 hockey game with 10 minutes left, its an ill-advised pinch," he added. Clifford added an insurance goal with 1:59 remaining. Drew Doughty also scored for Los Angeles (21-7-4) before 19,375 at the Air Canada Centre. Cody Franson scored for Toronto (16-13-3), which deserved better on the night. "By far it was our best effort in the last couple of months," said Toronto coach Randy Carlyle. "But no reward for it. And we have to use it as a starting point." The Leafs were without captain and top defenceman Dion Phaneuf, serving the first half of a two-game suspension for a weekend hit on Bostons Kevan Miller. But winger Joffrey Lupul returned after a seven-game absence due to a groin tear. The Leafs showed more jump than a Los Angeles team playing for the second night in a row but were unable to convert their advantage into goals. Carlyle said his players showed their frustration. "Theyre down," Carlyle said. "Because we had so many opportunities, so many offensive chances." Things dont get any easier for the Leafs with away games at St. Louis and Pittsburgh sandwiched around a visit Saturday by Stanley Cup champion Chicago. The Kings arrived riding a season-high four-game winning streak, hot on the heels of a 6-0 win in Montreal, and were 11-1-4 in their last 16 games. The Leafs, meanwhile, had just two regulation wins in their last 17 starts (a stretch during which they went 6-8-3). "Its like pushing that snowball," sighed Carlyle. "It seems every time you lose, it gets bigger." Los Angeles had outshot their opponents in 21 of their pprevious 31 games. Shane Greene Jersey. In contrast, the Leafs had been outshot in 27 of their 31 previous games. But on this night, Toronto outshot L.A. 11-8 after the first period, 21-16 after the second and 39-23 at the end. "We didnt play too well at all," said Doughty. "Probably one of our worst games in a while." Jones had to be sharp early, stopping James van Riemsdyk from in close after a fine rush by Lupul. JVR had another chance minutes later, shooting wide on a nice feed from Nazem Kadri. But Los Angeles scored first on the power play at 10:30 of the first period, on a high wrist shot by Doughty from the top of the circle. It was his sixth goal of the season and the 200th point of his 396-game career. Peter Holland was in the box for holding as the Leafs penalty kill, which came into the game ranked 26th in the league, continued to wobble. Jones stopped Nikolai Kulemin from point-blank range twice later in the period. The Leafs outplayed the Kings in the first period but trailed 1-0 as the visitors extended their record of not allowing a first-period goal in 17 straight games. That made for some Twitter banter. "Thoughts on the first period?" asked the Leafs official Twitter account. "It was pretty pretty pretty good," replied the Kings, via their official account. The Kings record when scoring first improved to 15-2-2. Jones stopped Phil Kessel all alone after the Leafs sniper stole a pass and broke through the defence early in the second. It took the Kings 5.5 minutes to get a shot on net in the period. Kings forward Colin Fraser was helped to the dressing room midway through the second period after running into Frazer McLaren near the bench. There was no penalty on the play. McLaren did go to the box after a spirited scrap with Jordan Nolan, son of interim Buffalo Sabres coach Ted Nolan. The Leafs had their chances but either misfired or were denied by the steady Jones. That changed when Toronto took advantage of a 64-second 5-on-3 chance after Doughty joined Willie Mitchell in the box with 5:57 remaining in the period. Franson scored 27 seconds later, snapping a shot from a poor angle at 14:30 on a slick cross-ice pass from Kessel, with Jones unable to slide from one side of the net to another in time. It was Fransons first of the season. But Jones prevented further damage by stopping Lupul from in close with the second penalty about to expire. Doughty scored seconds later when he jumped out of the box but the play had been whistled dead for an altercation between Lupul and Slava Voynov at the other end of the ice. Bernier heard the whistle and did not attempt to make the save. "I let Slava know he screwed me out of a goal," Doughty said wryly. The Leaf goalie saved Lupuls blushes early in the third when he stopped a Justin Williams backhand after a Lupul giveaway in front of net. Jones made several big saves as the clock wound down to preserve the lead. NOTES -- Rookie defenceman Morgan Rielly returned to the Leafs lineup after being a healthy scratch the last three games. John-Michael Liles sat out the game ... For the second night in a row, Toronto FCs Brazilian target Gilberto was at the ACC. He saw the Raptors lose Tuesday to San Antonio. ' ' '
